This is our Artists in the school mural that we recently completed at Apex Elementary. This is me and Vivian Magarino-Gomez, their wonderful art teacher. We are holding up the top of the tree. This mural was painted on foam so we could work on it in the art room. We included some local Apex buildings and the water tower, which is an Apex landmark. The kids did a great job painting this mural! We had a lot of fun.
It will be installed in the media center soon.
Each class had an different assignment. Some painted the background, other did brush work over that, until we got more and more detail.
The fifth graders got to design windows to go on the book-buildings for the mura. Drawing inspiration from literature, they only had 40 minutes to complete their windows. This panel features the Halle Cultural Center in downtown Apex and the original school building.
Animals reading was another theme we incorporated into the mural.
Of course I had to include a pig!
This is the beginning stages - getting it sketched out.
